This week is Pirate Week and man, are we having fun! We’re dressing up, rattling chains and even learning a lot!!
First, I did my own digging for treasures (ideas) and found some great ones. Next, the the whole
class went treasure digging.
For literacy treasures, each pirate received a piece of paper with the alphabet on it. Then she/he dug at the sand table to find the buried letters. Each time a letter was found, it could be crossed off the list.
Some good ways to differentiate this activity include forming the following groups:
*Students who find and cross off letters
*Students who find the letters, cross them off and identify the letter names
*Students who find the letters, cross them off, identify the letter names and sounds
