Grandparents’ Day at Grace was extra-special this year, as it nearly coincided with Pope Francis’ visit to the Festival of Families in Philadelphia. It also precedes the Synod of Bishops on the Family which is scheduled for October in Rome.
Our Grace preschoolers had a wonderful time with their grandparents. They went to church with us, sang a song about how God made us all special, and wrote prayers with us.
The prayers they printed out are being made into a prayer chain by the older students. The chain will be hung up in the church for everyone to see, and remember we are one family, responsible to and for each other. It will remind us to hold each other in prayer.
Pope Francis said, “The family must take special care of children and grandparents. (Children are) the strength that moves us forward … grandparents are the living memory of the family. They pass on the faith; they transmitted the faith to us.”
We believe that at Grace. Thanks, Pope Francis, for your inspiring words!
