We’ve been learning about Kites. What fun!
First, though, I had to remake my Kite Centers because they – like so much else last week – had been destroyed in the flood. Thank God for my Sisters! They helped me cut, glue and laminate like crazy, and together we got the centers done in time!
Here are some of the fun activities we’re doing in our classroom (here are some more resources for you):
Making Looooong Kite Tails! We are making very long kite tails with the whole alphabet on the bows of the tail. A 26-bow tail is an impressive sight indeed!
Matching Colors: We match the color of our letters and words with the color of the kite.
Reading Fun Kite Stories (here’s a free reader to download and color)
Watching part of Marry Poppins and singing along with the cast, Let’s go Fly a Kite
Flying Our Own Kites! This activity works great with preschoolers. We take a plastic grocery bag and tie a piece of yarn to the handle. That is it! We troop outside to fly our kites. As the students begin to run, the bag fills with air and poof! begins to fly. It was wonderful. The students – and their teacher! – all had a blast. 🙂
