Holy Consonants! Letter Sound Songs for Preschoolers

batmanRecently, a teacher on the Scholastic Books Facebook page posted a question: “Does anyone have a song or poem that works on sounds? We’ve done Ra Ra Red Sheep like Ba Ba Black Sheep. Does anyone have other ideas? Thanks!”

I did have an idea and posted it for her. I thought I would share it here, too, with you. It includes songs I’ve used with my preschoolers to help them with their letter sounds. Here are my top 10 favorites.

1. Batman Alphabet – I use the original Batman theme song to work on consonant sounds:
Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba batman
Ca, Ca, ca, ca, ca ca, ca, ca catman
Da, da ,da, da,da, da, da, da datman
etc.

2. Who let the letters out by Dr. Jean

3. Alphardy by Dr. Jean

4. What Do The Letters Say? (What Does The Fox Say? Parody)

5.The Alphabet in my mouth by Dr. Jean

6. Phonics Song by The Learning Station

7. One Little Sound from Hap Palmer

8. Learning Letter Sounds by Jack Hartmann

9. Learin’ My Letters! Harry Kindergarten Music

10. I ate eight apples and bananas (this is for vowels sounds)

My students’ favorite is the Batman song … the only one for which there is no video. I guess I’ll have to make one. 🙂

If your class has a favorite letter sound song, let us know about it!!!
