Video Calling with Preschoolers

We are still adjusting to Sandy’s departure in our classroom. The children still ask when she’s coming back, and can she come to my house to play.

Going-away gifts and a party don’t mean forever at this age!

So when Sandy’s mom emailed to say Sandy missed us, and might we consider a video call, sandy-preschoolerwe jumped on it.

With the help of our wonderful school secretary, we set up the Facebook video call. I prepared the kids before we dialed, so they knew to take turns talking.

What fun!

We all had a chance to share with Sandy, and even enjoyed a tour of her new house and bedroom.

It was wonderful for us all to see Sandy again. ❤

  1. I recently came upon your blog and I just want to say how much I enjoy reading it. I am a doc student in ESL education, and I teach pre-service ESL teachers. I love the way you helped your students understand what moving means. What a brilliant idea to use the video call! I am certain your students will never forget learning about moving, as well as the excitement of getting to see their classmate in her new home. I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to share this idea with my students, some of whom are planning to teach little ones.

  2. Stephanie, I’m so glad you found the blog!!! Thank you for the wonderful words. I hope your students – and their little ones – benefit from the idea. Blessings! Sister Stefanie
