The 2nd graders can make their own boards (with help), but the 1st graders need to have their boards prepared ahead of time. (It helps to have Team Benedictine ready to help with all my art projects!)
Weaving does include “down time” as the teacher checks work and helps students, so one of my tips is to have another activity for your students during those wait periods. Even having blank paper and crayons for drawing is a good idea!
Also, if you have a large class you may want to recruit a volunteer to help you check weavings and add new string.
Finally, this projects does take numerous class times to complete, but it’s worth it. Students love it as much as we did! 🙂
