In keeping with our theme of staying indoors – and because of our evening viewing of the Winter Olympics – we preschoolers have decided to put on our own version of the great event right here in East Moline, Illinois. Continue Reading
Blessings and Love … to YOU!
Try indoor recess for your preschoolers
If you live around here (Rock Island, Illinois), you know what the weather’s been like. COLD. Too cold to take preschoolers out to play … which is a horrible state of affairs.
They’ve been pressuring me as we walk across the parking lot back to our classroom from lunch. (Our lunchroom is in our parish’s Cleary Hall. It’s separate from the actual school building.) Continue Reading
Preschoolers love underpants!
Outer space is a fun unit for lots of reasons. What’s not to love about the plants and the stars and the sun?
This year, we had another reason to love it. Underpants.
Now, if you teach young kids, you know how they giggle, laugh and hoot at the very word underpants.
Try reading them the delightful book, Aliens Love Underpants and see what happens. 😀

A Crazy Idea during Catholic Schools Week

Here's some silliness from last year's Catholic Schools Week!
Grace’s celebration of Catholic Schools Week started on Sunday with Masses at all 5 of our feeder parishes.
I went to the 8 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
We heard a wonderful homily about how Catholic education helps us learn how to follow Jesus. We heard parents speak about how much they appreciate Grace Academy, both for its academics and its Catholicism. And we were able to thank Grace families for all that they bring to the school.
Today, our plans were thwarted by the cold weather. 😦 Continue Reading
A Polar Party for Preschoolers
Recently it’s been so cold and wet here (we expect a high of 5 degrees today) that the children haven’t been able to go outside to play. Aaargh. Imagine a roomful of preschoolers peering out at all the pretty snow yet cooped up inside. Not a pretty sight. 😦
So last week we brought the outside in, and had a Polar Party. Continue Reading
Getting Squirmy Preschoolers to Pay Attention at Mass
Trooping into church with 20 preschoolers is fun. Other teachers – and parents who join us – look at me like they pity me.
It’s fun to let them see just how wrong they are.
Because here’s my secret weapon: 6th graders. I put my little ones next to the big ones and watch them both behave! Continue Reading
Teaching Preschool Math (with Fun … and Differential Instruction)
Catholic school education is superb for many reasons. Teaching about Jesus and the Gospel values is right at the top … but so is the excellence of our education. That excellence begins early here at Grace, and it begins with math.
Good math skills are critical to long term academic success, and should be taught creatively and passionately. Small children love math! Continue Reading
What Sisters really do :)
Yesterday was supposed to be the 1st day back at school, but it was canceled because of the cold. I was just as excited as the kids to hear the news. (Today, we’re off, too.) YAY!!!
It gave me the leisure to really enjoy Sunday evening with my Sisters. What did we do? Take a look! 😉
