For the last 4 years, Grace preschoolers have enjoyed a Stone Soup Thanksgiving celebration.
It gives us a chance to not only learn about thankfulness, but about sharing. It definitely matches Grace’s mission: Enter to Learn, Exit to Serve!
We also learn about the first Thanksgiving, when Native Americans shared what they had and helped the Pilgrims learn to grow their own food crops. In gratitude, the Pilgrims invited the Native Americans to stay for a celebration.
We then enact our own sharing Thanksgiving with stone soup.
We make place mats and other decorations for our table. We invite parents to come help their children make corn bread and the soup (we use a crock pot to heat the soup).
The parents then go over to Cleary Hall to set the tables and serve the food. We go over and pray and thank the Lord for our food. Then we eat what we have prepared and shared.
It’s a good – and meaningful – time for all!
