Jesus goes to the Festival of Trees (Thanks to Grace Preschoolers)!

A fun event here in the Quad-Cities is our Festival of Trees. Everybody looks forward to it … but not everybody creates a tree. We Grace Preschoolers did, though!!

We glued popsicle sticks into triangles to make the ornaments. Some were painted and sequined to look like Christmas trees. Some were painted and decorated with wiggly eyes and red buttons to become Rudolf the Reindeer. We loved those! Continue Reading

Grace Celebrates Veterans Day

Grace Academy celebrates Veterans Day every year. We start around the flag pole with the presentation of the colors by the Mexican American Veterans Association.Taps is played, the National Anthem is sung.

At Mass this year, Fr. Greg gave a beautiful homily thanking the vets for their service and presenting them with a small gift. After Mass, the older students listened to a speaker talk about Hero Street, and enjoyed refreshments with the vets. Continue Reading

Praying for the Children as They Follow Their New Paths

I have gone back this week to start packing things up for the summer. This is one of my least favorite tasks … but the cleaning staff won’t touch my room until I get it done!

How Smart Boards make Smart Leaders

Mornings are always fun in preschool … and even more fun this year with our Smart Board! It really gets the kids up and moving while they learn. No desks for us!!

We received our Smart Board last fall. It looks – and acts – like a giant touch-screen tablet mounted on the wall, and it can do everything but tie the kids’ shoes. (Okay, that’s a bit of an overstatement. But it is amazing!) Continue Reading

Being Present

The children love Father Greg. He’s always taking time to listen and play with them. Today he invited us up during the homily to tell the students a story with a puppet. We all loved it. Father Greg embodies the Benedictine value of being present to others, by listening with the ear of the heart (St. Benedict said that!).

I love sharing my life as a Catholic Benedictine Sister with others. Call or write me any time to ask me questions!! 🙂

The New Roman Missal: Part 2

Teaching preschoolers about the revised Roman Missal is not easy, to say the least. Lots of grownups will be confused! But I’m giving it a try … and incorporating a little teaching across the curriculum in the process. Continue Reading
