It was with great excitement that the Benedictine Sisters welcomed our Grace 8th grade class last week. They came to perform their “Our Lady of Guadalupe” play for us. They perform it every year at school.
Our Sisters loved it! Continue Reading
Baby Jesus for Preschoolers
Grace preschoolers finished their Baby Jesus dolls last week, and I wanted to be sure you got to see them. (Here’s how we did it.)
The children love them … and so do I.
What a joy it is, to help little ones grow their love for Him!!!! ❤
Wrapping Baby Jesus in Art … and Learning about Both!
Grace kindergartners are learning about the artist Gustav Klimt. First, we read a story called Klimt and His Cat. Then we talked about and looked at his art work.
This is where it got really cool (at least in a Catholic grade school). We discovered Klimt cared for the poor and those in need. Continue Reading
Making 3-D Baby Jesus for Christmas
Teaching in a Catholic grade school means weaving Jesus into every lesson. 🙂
So as we learn about 3-Dimensional art, we each get to make our own 3-D Baby Jesus.
A sewing friend (I don’t sew!) helped craft a U-shaped body that my preschoolers could stuff and draw a face on. (Some drew the whole body.) Continue Reading
Tinting and Shading a Christmas Sky
Our 2nd grade art class is learning about tinting and shading right now, by creating backdrops of the night sky for their Christmas nativity scenes. Beautiful! Continue Reading
Thankfulness Turkeys for Catholic Grade School

There’s a lot to be thankful for, and this time of year we spend time talking about it … and doing something about it. Continue Reading
Play-Doh Snakes and Pinch Pots, Oh My!
We are focusing on pottery this month, and oh boy is it fun!
We began by learning what clay is … but then pulled out the Play-Doh to practice. (Clay is mud. Play-Doh is flour and water … a fact that might be dangerous to share with preschoolers. See below.) Continue Reading
Holy Consonants! Letter Sound Songs for Preschoolers
Recently, a teacher on the Scholastic Books Facebook page posted a question: “Does anyone have a song or poem that works on sounds? We’ve done Ra Ra Red Sheep like Ba Ba Black Sheep. Does anyone have other ideas? Thanks!” Continue Reading
Celebrating differences courtesy Pablo Picasso

We have continued to learn about Pablo Picasso, using the beautifully illustrated Just Behave, Pablo Picasso! by Jonah Winter. The kids loved the book … and loved our art project even more!
The project was based on Pablo’s musical instrument paintings. Continue Reading
